Boo Hoo

You know that blast of hot air you get when the timer on the oven goes off and you crack the door to see if the cookies are done? Welcome to Egypt!

The boys were ticked about the 6:30 dive time this morning because our resort serves hot breakfast at 7:00. Too bad, so sad. Have to eat a cold breakfast in order to go diving in the Red Sea. Big babies.

Interestingly, today we had an armed guard accompany us on our excursion. It was determined by the local Board of Tourism that 7 Americans should have an Egyptian policeman with automatic weapons with them at all times for protection. Our dive instructor said it was the first time it had happened to him. I’m not sure how safe we were whilst he was napping….

We drove about an hour to the Ras Mohammed Nature Park - an aquatic park. Our first dive was from a Bedouin camp - new experience. It was at a location named ‘Shark’s Bay’ and we hoped we’d see some sharks. Beautiful water, beautiful fish, but not a shark in site. Bummer. The fish you see in the Red Sea are very similar to what you see in the South Pacific; lots of clown fish, anemones, trunk fish, flounder, blennies…. and a good healthy reef.

Second dive site was from a little finger into the Red Sea named something Egyptian (wouldn’t even attempt to spell it). The entry was pretty cool. We swam a short distance to a reef at that was just about three feet from the surface and went feet first, one at a time into a hole in the reef. The opening was just large enough for a diver and a tank. It opened up at about 20 feet into a beautiful wall. Today we didn’t see any large marine life but it felt like being in an aquarium. The water temps were just around 80 - 82 degrees… just my style.

You’ll never guess where we ate for lunch. We had a McFlurry.

  1. This is not fair. You should not be allowed to be so far away from me. Does my friendship mean nothing.

  2. One day, I hope I get to do EVERY ONE of these things that you've been doing.
