Picture Postcard

The morning of Friday the 13th, it was back to the Milan Centrale station to catch our train to Monterosso. On the way I found a replacement black sweater - for which the boys were grateful as I wouldn’t stop mourning the loss of my other one. Whether or not it is as perfect as the first remains to be seen….

Our ‘coach’ was a six person that we shared with two Italians for a part of the journey; they both got off in Genoa so Drew immediately made himself at home.

It was raining in Milan when we left and the weather in the Cinque Terre was predicted to be rainy, but boy were the skies blue when we arrived! (We’ve been so fortunate to have such amazing weather.)

The weather was so nice that we quickly changed into our swimming suits and hit the beach. The boys swam out to a rock and took their turn jumping into the ocean. On this trip we have been in the ‘Med’, the ‘Dead’ and the ‘Red’. David commented that we were spoiled after the Red Sea because it was so warm.

The entire month of August is vacation time for Italians and many of them have joined us here in Monterosso. A hotel room in the Cinque Terre in August is prime real estate but we got a comfortable and clean place called the Hotel 5 Terre just off the beach.

After our dip in the Mediterranean we cleaned up and headed for dinner. Ironically our waiter was from Ecuador so David was able to clearly communicate for us - in Spanish! Our dinner was fantastic but lacked that final touch so we took care of it immediately.

Walking through Monterosso is so picturesque, you feel like you are in a postcard. The town is the northern most of the 5 little towns that make up the Cinque Terre and probably the biggest town with the best beach.
As the sun went down the boys walked out to the end of the break wall and I was able to see the lights coming on in Vernazza. - where I stayed on a previous trip with my parents and my sister.
